CBHS Names Jason Motte Head Baseball Coach

“I am honored for the opportunity to lead the young men of this program,” said Coach Motte. “I hope to instill values that transcend the baseball field while we strive to continue the winning tradition that is CBHS baseball.”

Christian Brothers High School announced Sunday that Jason Motte would be its next head baseball coach during the team’s annual pre-season dinner.

“I am honored for the opportunity to lead the young men of this program,” said Coach Motte. “I hope to instill values that transcend the baseball field while we strive to continue the winning tradition that is CBHS baseball.”

“In just two years at CBHS, Coach Motte has made a real impact both on and off the field,” said Mike Kelly, CBHS director of athletics. “Our students are inspired by his leadership and energy, his positive outlook, and his zeal for the game. We’re excited for the direction this program can take with him as head coach.”

Before joining CBHS as pitching coach in January 2020, Motte played for more than 9 seasons in the Major Leagues as a relief pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, Atlanta Braves, and St. Louis Cardinals. Most notably, he helped clinch the World Series for the Cardinals in 2011—closing out Game 7 over the Texas Rangers—and he led the National League in saves the following year. He is a two-time nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, which recognizes MLB players who "best represent the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field."

Alongside his wife Caitlin, Motte started the Jason Motte Foundation in 2011, which has since raised over $1.5 million to provide comfort and care to families affected by cancer. The Foundation participates in charity events around the country and hosts annual fundraising events in Memphis and St. Louis. It also raises funds through the sale of its ꓘCancer (Strike Out Cancer) t-shirts.

Motte was named interim head baseball coach following Buster Kelso’s exit in August 2021.

Brothers Football Welcomes Ron Crawford as Defensive Coordinator

The CBHS Athletics Department announced today the hiring of former Brentwood High School head coach Ron Crawford to serve as defensive coordinator for the school's football program.

"Our school, community, and football program just got exponentially better today with the addition of coach Ron Crawford. Coach Crawford comes to us as one of the most respected, competitive, and genuine coaches that this state offers. As a leader, his longevity and consistency are proven. His relational attitude, superior work ethic, knowledge, and servant leadership will make CBHS an even better school for young men. He brings excellence to the classroom and on the field,” said Thomas McDaniel, football head coach.

According to The Tennessean, Crawford led Brentwood's football program to a state runner-up finish last season. The Bruins won the state championship in Crawford's first season in 2002, beating Riverdale, and he holds a win-loss record of 150-55 as a head coach.

Crawford will also serve in the classroom at CBHS in the school’s social studies department.
