CBHS Alumni

The tradition of St. John Baptist de LaSalle continues today with Christian Brothers High School leading the Mid-South through excellence in academics and athletics. Everyone connected with CBHS has helped to build a tradition, a history, and a reputation that is untouched by any other school in the city.

Another constant over the years at CBHS is our bond as alumni. One of the most common statements made about Christian Brothers graduates is how close we are as a whole. More than 11,000 living alumni throughout all 50 states and beyond is a testament to the good work that the Christian Brothers have accomplished through the years, yet we are one!

Our greatest richness, as Brothers' Boys, lies in our people – Brothers, teachers, students and especially our alumni. The boys who enter CBHS and endure its rigorous course of study graduate as men and are proud to take with them an incredible work ethic and a strong Lasallian spirit. There is a wealth of talent and resources that sets our alumni apart and makes them valuable assets as they lead and serve their communities.

The mission of the CBHS Alumni Association is to ensure that we never lose sight of this fact, and we encourage all of our alumni to be involved with our association. The Alumni Association sponsors a number of events throughout the year, including tailgates, class reunions, annual alumni golf tournaments, Lasallian service awards, quarterly alumni Mass and breakfasts, Lenten reflections, and annual fund drives.

The Office of Alumni Relations is located inside Stephen Hall and is open from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. during the school day. For more information, contact Jake Garbuzinski, Director of Annual Fund and Alumni, at (901) 261-4940 or

  • 2019 Distinguished Alumnus - David Cook '69

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers..."

David Cook '69 was honored this week as part of the CBHS Donor Appreciation Dinner, where he was presented the 2019 Distinguished Alumnus award. He also relived his glory days with a rousing rendition of our Alma Mater alongside current students.

We are grateful for the support of Mr. Cook and other esteemed alumni, whose donations of time, energy, and funds ensure our mission of inspiring Boys through education lives on for future generations.

  • 2018 Distinguished Alumnus - William Griesbeck '66

Christian Brothers High School Alumni Association was pleased to recognize William “Billy” Griesbeck (CBHS ’66) as its 2018 Distinguished Alumnus at the third annual President’s Circle Dinner on November 18. The event is hosted each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving to recognize donors to Christian Brothers High School.
Br. Joel McGraw, FSC ’63 opened the event in prayer followed by dinner provided by the school’s dining staff under the leadership of Chef Kirk Martin. Brother Chris Englert, FSC, CBHS President, addressed the crowd to give his thanks and appreciation for their commitment to our Lasallian Mission here in Memphis. Br. Chris graciously introduced the audience to our incoming President, Br. David Poos. The light program was highlighted by the presentation of the distinguished alumni award. Jonathan Lyons ’93 recognized the significance the award has in the CBHS community as the highest recognition bestowed on an alumnus by their peers since its inception in 1993.
Introducing Billy Griesbeck was his daughter Charlotte Henderson who shared her experience with her father as a family man, but also as a business partner along with other members of the family. “My father’s commitment to family, faith, and community is all attributed to what he learned at CBHS,” she said.
Billy and his wife Mary Ann have been married for 49 years. They have two daughters, Charlotte Anne Henderson and Lynn Watson, and five grandchildren - Will, Olivia, Walker, Benjamin and Frances. Will Henderson, a 2018 CBHS graduate, is a member of the 5th generation of the Griesbeck family to graduate from CBHS.

Educated at the University of Mississippi, Billy joined Reynolds Bone & Griesbeck (RBG) in 1970. He is a former Managing Partner and brings more than 45 years of experience to the public accounting sector. He specializes in taxation and planning for closely held businesses with a focus on high net worth individuals. He is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA).

Throughout his career, Billy has been active in many professional and charitable organizations. It is not uncommon to find him serving in leadership roles in many of these organizations, and he continues his involvement today.
Some of the professional organizations Billy has served include: past Chairman and board member of the Tennessee Society of CPAs; past member of the Council of the American Institute of CPAs; past member of various committees of TSCPA and AICPA; past Chairman of Allinial Global; Trustee of the Day Foundation; member of Ole Miss School of Accountancy Advisory Board; and board member of various nonprofit organizations in the Memphis area. Billy’s volunteer activities include: past member of the Catholic Diocese of Memphis Finance Council, past board member of Catholic Charities, and past member of Immaculate Conception Cathedral School board. He is parishioner of the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception and St. John's Church (Oxford).

In accepting the honor, Billy observed that the transformation of the campus over the past 50 years – from a basic building in a wide-open area with the only neighbor is the Penal Farm – has been nothing short of spectacular.

“Thank you to the Christian Brothers for serving Memphis for nearly 150 years,” he said.
