The CBHS Site & Memphis Diocese

CBHS Homepage
The homepage of Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, TN. Explains the school's mission and academic and extracurricular activities.

School Calendar
The CBHS calendar page is lists all special events associated with the school and is continually updated. This is not the calendar page for my class, which can be found by clicking on the button in the navigation menu to your left.

Religion Department
The department homepage has teacher schedules and course descriptions, as well as retreat and service hour information.

Memphis Catholic Diocese
The website for the diocese has information about Mass times for individual parishes, links to schools in the diocese with websites, and information about diocesan programs and vocations.

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
My parish's homepage. The cathedral has been recently renovated and is worth a look.

Best Biblical Studies/Historical Jesus Sites

»The New Testament Gateway
Hands down, the best NT site on the web. Maintained by Dr. Mark Goodacre at the University of Birmingham (UK), this site functions as a portal to all of the information on the web associated with New Testament studies. Exhaustive and continually updated, this is the first place to look for more information on any topic covered in my class.

The Old Testament Gateway
Newer and less exhaustive than the NT Gateway listed above, this site nevertheless promises to be a great starting point for OT research on the web. See also the iTanakh link below.

» The Jesus Archive
Probably the best place on the web for researching the whole topic of the "Historical Jesus." Scholarly articles, interviews, and reviews. Updated monthly.

» Jesus of Nazareth in Early Christian Gospels
A large online collection of early Christian writings, Biblical and non-Biblical. Many are offered in more than one translation, and some are offered in their original language. A great site for learning more about Gnosticism and other early church "heresies."

» Resources for Biblical Studies, From Felix Just, S.J.
My favorite site for resources on the gospels- especially the gospel of John. A lot of information in the form of lists/charts and brief summaries make this site a great quick reference.

Resource Pages for Biblical Studies

The Bible and Interpretation

From Jesus to Christ- The First Christians
This website accompanies a 4-part PBS Frontline documentary of the same name. The site is very well done, with brief but informative essays covering a variety of topics in New Testament and early Christianity.

» Into His Own: Perspectives on the World of Jesus

Historical Jesus Articles by William Lane Craig
Craig is a well-known and respected conservative scholar whose viewpoint on such issues as the Historical Jesus and the historicity of the resurrection stories has made him a serious alternative to the secular views of such groups as the Jesus Seminar. Here many of his articles are collected.

The Encyclopedia of New Testament Textual Criticism
Based on a written work of the same name, this site focuses on one type of Biblical criticism, explaining the importance, process and pitfalls of trying to recover the "original version" of the Bible by comparing the extant manuscript copies.

Bible Dictionary at the Postmodern Bible
This site is an interesting attempt to take full advantage of the way information can be presented on internet. Currently growing, but the Bible dictionary is useful.

General Biblical Studies

Catholic Church Documents Related to Biblical Studies
The Catholic Church's position on the divine inspiration of scripture and its proper interpretation are two of its most misunderstood doctrines. The extensive list of links take you to complete online copies of church documents that explain these doctrines fully. Essential reading.

» iTanakh
An excellent comprehensive resource for online information related to the Old Testament. There is less information online for the OT than there is for the NT, so don't expect this site to be as exhaustive as the New Testament Gateway.

Biblical Studies on the Web

» "The Text This Week"- Lectionary Resources
Along with The New Testament Gateway and the E.N.T.E.R. sites, this is one of the best comprehensive New Testament sites on the web. Especially for teachers and preachers. I am particularly fond of the site's resources for relating films to Biblical themes.

Links at Saint Mary's Press
SMP is the press of the Christian Brothers, and their website has descriptions of their textbooks, along with an annotated links page specifically for teachers.

“Christianity” at About.com

ABC’s “The Search for Jesus” at Beliefnet
Intended to accompany the ABC news broadcast (of the same name) hosted by Peter Jennings, this site is actually a fairly impressive collection of scholarly articles related to the search for the historical Jesus.

» Apocalypse!
This site accompanies a PBS Frontline documentary on Apocalypticism. The documentary primarily deals with the book of Revelation and how it has been interpreted over the last two millenia. Lots of information, including excerpts from some primary sources outside the bible.

Bible History Online

The Gospels

The New Testament Gospels and Thomas in Parallel Frames

Four Gospels: Comparative Charts

"The Four Witnesses"
This site accompanies Robin Griffin's book of the same title. Useful background information and summaries of the author's beliefs about the four gospel authors. Soon to be a television documentary.

Summary of the Synoptic Problem from the Jesus Seminar’s Homepage
The relationship of the synoptics to one another, as well as their relationship to non-Canonical Christian writings, is essential to the Jesus Seminar's resonstruction of early Christian origins. Read it here, straight from the "horse's mouth" so to speak.

The Synoptic Gospels Primer
Just about everything you need to know about the Synoptic Problem, including a survey of all known solutions. The introductory articles on the topic are helpful and clearly written.

Robert Sungenis, a Catholic apologist and editor of the books Not by Faith Alone and Not by Scripture Alone, operates this organization. Like Catholic Answers, it is intended to help Catholics answer tough questions about their faith, and to counter misinformation.

Scripture Catholic
Fundamentalists typically try to use randomly quoted scripture passages to argue that Catholicism is "unbiblical." This site lists about 2000 scripture passages that support church doctrines and teachings.

Bible & Film

The Internet Movie Database
The place to go for basic information about a film, star, or director. The site is exhaustive, but not necessarily in-depth, so I recommend Rotten Tomatoes or Hollywood Jesus (both below) for more information.

» Rotten Tomatoes
My favorite site for information about a film, this is an extensive collection of online reviews of movies. The site's format is user-friendly, and the sheer number of reviews collected is incredible.

» Hollywood Jesus- Film Reviews
A massive collection of film reviews "from a spiritual perspective." Some of the reviews are stretching it a bit, but for the most part there is much useful information here.

Anti-Roman Catholicism

World Christian Tract Directory
Not everything on this site is Anti-Catholic, but it contains links to many online "ministries" that are. Read the descriptions for the various websites and you'll see what I mean.

Fascinating Reading of the Bible for Roman Catholics
Hardly. More like fascinating propaganda for the religious bigot-in-training. Like so many sites of this type, this one assumes that Roman Catholics know nothing about the Bible.

Mission to Catholics, International
Here, you can read online copies of their newsletter Challenger, and find links to other similar "ministries."

Good News for Catholics, Inc.
James G. McCarthy is the founder of this evangelical "ministry." He is the author of The Gospel According to Rome, and claims to be an ex-Catholic.

Proclaiming the Gospel Ministries
Founded by Mike Gendron, another apparently disgruntled ex-Catholic who wants to save your soul.

Just for Catholics
A site dedicated to saving Catholics. This one has links to some of the more reputable anti-Catholic sites on the net.

Reasoning From the Scriptures Ministries, Inc.
This one is founded by Ron Rhodes, who is the author of several Fundamentalist apologetics books intended to educate people on how to respond to Catholic claims and doctrines.

Christians Evangelizing Catholics
This group, started by Bill Jackson, presents its Catholic-bashing material in the form of a handy online glossary.

The Catholic Chronicles
Keith Green, a Fundamentalist and former singer (now deceased) wrote these anti-Catholic tracts in the late 70s/early 80s.

Chick Publications
Jack Chick is perhaps the most vehement anti-Catholic out there, using misrepresentation and slander to communicate his message. Some of his worst tracts are: The Beast, Last Rights, Murph, Are Roman Catholics Christian?, Why is Mary Crying?, The Death Cookie, The Attack, Holocaust, Is There Another Christ?, Macho. For one Catholic's response to Chick's shenanigans, click here.
