Book of Daily Prayer (56-60)

 56. BECAUSE

Because I have received kindness, I have been spurred on to be kind.

Because I have caught the smile on another's lips, I have found myself smiling.

Because I have known the joy of receive I rejoice in giving.

Because I have felt pain, I know what pity is.

Because I have tasted humiliations, I know what consideration is.

Because I have seen Christ suffer, I have had the courage to go on.

57. HOW CAN I FIND HAPPINESS?

What is happiness? Where can it be found? I want to make my world a fuller and richer place to live. I feel good when I do something to help another person, but fall back into the same self centered world after I think that I have found the answer. It is hard to give up something. It is difficult to believe that happiness consists in doing things for others. I don't want to take a chance and make a mistake. I want to be cautious and play it cool. You tell me to give up everything, and I am content to follow the minimum standards. This points to the greatest challenge of human existence. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet this challenge. I hope to always be ready to say "yes" to this call of yours wherever it may lead me..

58. CHRIST BE IN MY BODY

Christ be in my head, and in my understanding.

Christ be in my eyes and in my looking.

Christ be in my mouth, and in my speaking.

Christ be in my heart, and in my thinking.

Christ be in my end, and at my departing.

59. STEER SAFELY

We shall steer safely through every storm, so long as our heart is right, our intention fervent, our courage steadfast, and our trust fixed on God.

60. A PRAYER FOR MY FAMILY

0 Heavenly God I humbly beseech your blessings for my family. Keep my loved ones in your tender care and protect them from every evil. Grant that no matter how separated we may be by distance, we shall always be close to one another, and to you. May we continue to grow in love and peace, ever seeking your blessings until we are united with you forever in heaven.
