  TEACHERS -- THE FIRST RESOURCE

CBHS teachers are available either before or after school for students seeking individual assistance.  Students are encouraged to see their teachers before their need for help becomes urgent. Other resources are listed below.  Students may contact their counselors for advice about the type of academic assistance that would be most beneficial in their particular situation.

PEER TUTORING

The Peer Tutoring Program is designed primarily for students who are having difficulty mastering a subject.  Students may request a Peer Tutor by filling out a "Peer Tutor Request Form" available in the Counseling Center and putting it in Br. Roman's box.  Shortly after the request is submitted, Br. Roman will match the student with another student who is proficient in the subject.    Students and their tutors meet with Brother Roman and together agree upon a date, time and place for the tutoring sessions either before or after school.

AFTER-SCHOOL STUDY HALL

Beginning the third week of every school year, an after school Study Hall is available on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15pm to 4:00pm to students who need supervised academic assistance. Two Peer Tutors are available at each session to aid students in improving their academic performance by helping them with their homework or assisting them with any course work with which they are struggling. Sessions are supervised by Mike Baricos, a member of our counseling department. Although Study Hall attendance is voluntary, students in need of weekly tutoring and a structured, supervised environment are encouraged to regularly attend.
