GENERAL
The success of Christian Brothers High School through the years can be attributed to a number of sources: strong leadership; involved parents; committed faculty; loyal alumni; and dedicated board members. These are what have sustained the LaSallian tradition of CBHS in Memphis for 140 years.
Much of the school’s success is also the result of the financial support of our family members. This support enables the school to do a variety of things that go beyond what tuition allows.
ANNUAL FUND
The cornerstone of all the school’s fund raising efforts is the annual fund. This project, which kicks off in the fall each year, helps support the school’s operating budget, helping pay the same bills tuition pays. Thus, the annual fund is a direct way to help CBHS keep the cost of tuition affordable, enabling a wider range of families to take advantage of the educational opportunity the school affords.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGNS
Another key element in the school’s long-term success is capital fund raising, which meets the need for big-ticket items. For example, the Building the Future campaign raised $3.3 million in pledges to fund construction of a new academic wing and renovation of athletic facilities. Unlike the annual fund, gifts to the capital campaign are usually made as pledges, and are paid over time. This allows contributors to make more substantial gifts to projects with greater costs. Class reunion gifts such as the Class of 1959 sign campaign, the Class of 1960 bell project, and other building projects such as the band room addition campaign are other examples of capital fund raising. This type of fund raising takes place as the administration and the board of directors identify future needs.
DONATIONS
Memorial gifts and honoraria not only help CBHS, but are a good way to remember a loved one or to show respect for a friend. Memorial gifts may be designated by the family for a specific purpose, or they may be used as the school sees fit. Growing in popularity the past few years has been the idea of recognizing a living individual by making a gift, or honorarium, to CBHS in his or her name. The school has received gifts of this type to mark birthdays, graduations, promotions, retirements, anniversaries – any occasion or event the donor sees fit.
The administration, faculty and staff of CBHS work hard to be worthy of the tremendous support offered by our family members. So many parents, grandparents, alumni and friends contribute time and talents to the school; many more contribute through their financial support. The school’s ongoing success depends on this partnership, as we continue preparing young men for the challenges of 21st century living.
