Academic Assistance Minimize

Teachers... The First Resource

Teachers are available before and after school for students seeking individual assistance.  Students are encouraged to see their teachers before their need for help becomes urgent.  Students may contact their counselors for advice about the type of academic assistance that would be most beneficial.

Peer Tutoring

The Peer Tutoring Program is designed primarily for students who are having difficulty mastering a subject.  Students may request a Peer Tutor by completing a "Peer Tutor Request Form" available in the Counseling Center.  Shortly after the request is submitted, Br. Roman will match the student with another student who is proficient in the subject.    Students and their tutors meet with Brother Roman and together agree upon a date, time and place for the tutoring sessions.

College Admission & AP Tests Minimize
Colleges and universities accept either the ACT or SAT Reasoning test  in reviewing applications for admission. It is recommended that students take the ACT and/or the SAT during winter or spring of junior year. They may also decide to take the tests again during senior year. The student's score report is mailed to his home, and CBHS also receives a copy. It is the student's responsibility to send his ACT and SAT scores to colleges. Students are encouraged to consult with their counselor to determine which test(s) to take. Registration materials are available in the Counseling Center.
  • AMERICAN COLLEGE TEST (ACT) -- Subtests include English, mathematics, science reasoning, and reading. An optional writing subtest was added in February 2005. Scores range from 1- 36.
  • SAT I: REASONING TEST -- Subtests include critical reading and mathematics reasoning with scores on each subtest ranging from 200 to 800. The required writing subtest was added in March 2005.
  • SAT II: SUBJECT TESTS -- Some selective colleges may also require two or three of these subject tests for admission or placement.
  • ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMS -- Any student  enrolled in an Advanced Placement course is required to take the College Board AP Exam.  Each exam costs $86.  Payment is due April 1st. College Board does provide fee reductions for students with demonstrated financial need. Exams are administered at CBHS on national test dates in May. Satisfactory scores, as determined by each college/university, may result in college credit. Scores range from 1-5.
