CBHS faculty members assist the needy during Jan. 18 Day of Serive

A number of the Christian Brothers High School faculty and staff participated in the Day of Service on Monday, January 18. The two places where help was needed were Manna House on Jefferson Avenue and St. Mary Church Soup Kitchen in downtown Memphis.

Manna House provides a warm place for the homeless to gather during the cold weather and offers showers and clean clothes to their clients. At Manna House, CBHS faculty primarily socialized with the clients—serving coffee, vitamins, and cookies. Others assisted clients with selecting new clothes, acquiring toiletries, and cleaning the shower facilities at the end.

St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen feeds the homeless throughout the morning. When faculty members arrived, the manager was already serving oatmeal and coffee. Thus, they helped prepare sandwiches and the soup that was served later in the day, assisted with serving guests as they arrived, and cleaned dishes and the kitchen.

Thank you to all who participated and we look forward to more direct service to the poor in the future.
