CBHS teachers, administrators receive diocesan awards

Nine teachers and administrators from Christian Brothers High School received accolades from the Catholic Diocese of Memphis at the Catholic Schools Professional Day. Hundreds of teachers from all of the Catholic Schools throughout the diocese attended this annual conference, held Oct. 2 on the CBHS campus.

Four teachers were honored for years of service: Patty Scully, Director of Blended Learning, and religion teacher Gerry Taulman (20 years) and history teacher Chris Lewis and computer science teacher Betty Smith (25 years).

Five were honored with special awards:

Math teacher Philip Smith received the St. John Bosco Award for the Total Christian Formation of Students. The recipient of this award is an employee of the Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Memphis who consistently exhibits the Salesian charism - the ability to interconnect the spiritual, academic, physical, and social education of students.

English teacher Lindsey Neuman was the recipient of the St. John Neumann Outstanding Service Award. The recipient of this award is an employee of the Catholic Schools in the Diocese who has exhibited outstanding organizational skills and mission in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to the school community.

Spanish teacher Grady Harbor and Latin teacher Richard Branyan each received the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Award. The recipient of this award is a teacher in the Diocese of Memphis who has designed and successfully implemented a teaching technique in the classroom.

CBHS principal Chris Fay received the Christ the Teacher Award. The recipient of this award is a principal of a Catholic School in the Diocese of Memphis who is an outstanding example of Christ-like leadership for the Catholic school community. The recipient was chosen for this award by his/her colleagues.
