Holocaust survivor Max Notowitz (CBHS ’49) speaks to Facing History classes

Holocaust survivor Max Notowitz (CBHS Class of 1949) came to Christian Brothers High School Dec. 3 to speak to our boys and the girls from St Agnes Academy presently enrolled in the Facing History and Ourselves elective. Following a brief social in the foyer we were treated to Mr. Notowitz revisiting the events he triumphed over during the course of WWII and the Holocaust.  After watching Max’s story on video entitled “Max Notowitz: A Story of Survival,” the students also prepared questions for Mr. Notowitz.  His story of faith, perseverance and determination culminated in his not only surviving in occupied Poland but coming to Memphis and graduating from CBHS in 1949 but also from Vanderbilt University.  Notowitz was accompanied by his wife Fannie and his daughter Ida Notowitz Eleazer. Also attending were Sarah Stuart of Facing History and Ourselves and Lauren Boccia, St. Agnes Facing History teacher.
